Lion Walk – MUST DO!

The color I’m feeling is Mane Bronze. The lion walk at Antelope Park was probably one of the hightlights of my trip so far. It was a strange feeling stepping out of the safari jeep and into the tall grass to walk three 18 month old lions. At first i was a little uncomfortable when I saw the lions get released from the cages and start walking toward me. The stares from their copper colored eyes and sheer size of their paws alone would probably make any man buckle at the knees but by the end you realize that they are a bunch of lazy large cats. It also helped that we were with three of their trainers so nerves settled quickly after the walk began. Luckily I incorrectly set my alarm so I missed the early morning lion walk. Since we were leaving that day I asked the people at the park if they were going to do another lion walk. They said, “No,” but then decided to let me do one on my own since I was leaving. One other girl from my group joined which was pretty awesome because we basically got to spend the entire time with the lions without the hassle of a big group. Petting a lion and being so close to them is a pretty powerful and amazing feeling. If anyone ever has an inkling to go to Africa, this is something I highly recommend. Antelope Park in Zimbabwe was especially good since it cost less than most other places and the money goes back into the fantastic lion breeding program there.
