Tropical Depression

Though it began raining like crazy while we were in Railay Beach, Chet and I still decided to go to Ko Pha Ngan which is a big party island off the coast of Thailand. The ferry out to Ko Pha Ngan was pretty bad with high swells slamming against the boat. We did not however expect to be caught in the middle of a HUGH tropical depression…it rained like crazy for days on the island. There was tons of flooding and frequent blackouts. One night while we were walking around there was a blackout and since we didn’t have a flashlight we took shelter at the nearest place that had candlelight. That place happened to be a massage parlor so we decided that while we waited for the electricity to go back on we’d get a massage. I even remember walking back to the hotel that night during a massive electric storm and remember the hairs on my arms raising up due all the electricity in the air…at that point I decided to run cause I didn’t want to get struck by lightning. The rain was incessant however we couldn’t leave the island since all ferries out were canceled. Finally we decided one morning to just pack up our shit and hope for a ferry out. As we were leaving the hotel there was a mini-landslide that took out this truck (in photo). We waited at the ferry along with hundreds of other people who were waiting to evacuate and we were finally able to make it to the mainland in search for sunnier pastures.
