Brick Factory

Brick Factory The little kid from the previous photo taking me on tour of the brick factory in their village on the outskirts of Battambang, Cambodia.

Brick Kiln

Bamboo Train Kid

Bamboo Train Kid I really like this photo. The kid pictured was my tour guide in this tiny village.  The bamboo train cost about $10 to ride and it took me to a small village with a brick factory. When I rode the train I was the only foreigner around.  When I arrived to the village the little boy greeted me and took me around.  Later I sat at a table and he served me beer.  I didn’t even feel like beer but drank it cause it was all they had and the least I could do was buy a couple from them.  I hung out with him, his siblings and his mother for about an hour.  No one spoke English but we...

Oncoming Traffic

Oncoming Traffic This is an example of oncoming traffic on a bamboo train line.  Which ever cart has more load is allowed the right-of-way.  The other cart with the smaller load is required to disassemble and allow for the other cart to pass.

Disassembled Train

Disassembled Train Man taking apart a norry which basically just consists of two parts….the rail wheels and the bamboo platform that sits on top.

Bamboo Train

Bamboo Train This is the famous bamboo train aka norry in Battambang, Cambodia.  This was the sole reason that I came to Battambang. I had read that the government was planning on rebuilding the rail lines and that this was eventually going to disappear.  The bamboo train is a 1 m gauge train track where locals ride a rail cart with a bamboo platform that is easily disassembled to allow for the other on coming  carts to pass, right-of-way going to the cart with the bigger load.   To me it reminded me of a bamboo flying carpet train.  I’m not sure what if these still exist however I’m...

Nary Kitchen Family

Nary Kitchen Family Here is the family of Nary Kitchen in Battambang, Cambodia.  Nary, her husband Toot, and their children…all really friendly and great people.  Spent most of the day with Toot as he was the one who took us on the tour of the market and explained most of the cooking.

From Market To Plate

From Market To Plate Best food ever!!!! Made everything from scratch all freshly purchased at the market the same day.  Freshness makes a world of a difference.  The meal we cooked included Fish Amok (fish in curry steamed in banana leaf), Red Curry, and Loc Lac (beef stir fry).  This was a wonderful experience and should anyone be in Battambang Cambodia, I highly recommend spending the day doing this.  Super affordable, fun, cultural, and delightfully delicious experience.  Here is a link if you want more info: Nary Kitchen.
